Bohdi from 1-A wanted to share a few pictures of bugs that he found in his very own backyard. We like to take pictures of them so we can look at them even after they have crawled or flown away. As it gets warmer and warmer outside, we keep finding more and more! If we find some new ones, we will take more pictures of them and show you!

This is a roly poly we found on our steps.

Here are a couple more pictures from last summer. We had our very own butterfly cocoon that we were able to watch as the butterfly transformed from a caterpillar to a beautiful butterfly!
This is a picture of the cocoon....and then this is what she looked liked right after she came out. Do you know what kind of butterfly it is?

From Millerville:

Is this bug a stink bug? or a water scorpian?

We LOVE the upclose pictures! Especially the butterfly!!!!!!

shannon says: nope not a stink bug or water scorpion...but you're getting very close!

From 1-A! Thanks for the magnificent pictures!! We found them very interesting. 1-A has an advantage in knowing what the mystery bug is.... Bohdi and Jack tell us that it is a Toe Pincher Beetle, but we could not find any information on the internet or our books about this beetle. We will keep looking and try again.

shannon says: You are on the right track! It's actually called a toe biter...ouch!! It's also called a giant water bug....but I think toe biter sounds much cooler! Let me know if you find out some information about them. I have heard that they can eat small fish! I wonder if it's true??

Hello from RUSSELL First Graders... WOW!! Those were some pretty *amazing* pictures, Bohdi & Shannon! We loved them! We'll do some research on those nasty toe biter insects!

i just wanted to share another bug photo we just got. look at this bee covered in pollen! looks like he's enjoying his lunch, huh?
